Letter to the Govanator

Hello Everybody,

I'm posting copy of the letter I sent to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
of California. His office will probably forward it over to the Atty. General's
offiice, whose office I have already filed a complaint. But you never know.

Governor's Office:

Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,

Hope this finds you and your family well.

This concerns a year long problem I've been having

with Directv located at 2230 E. Imperial Hwy. El

Segundo, Ca. 90245. Tele. 310-535-5000.

In Dec. 08 I responded to an ad they ran in the paper

which offered 12 months of service for $29.99 per month.

There were no other requirements involved, in other words

you did not have to sign up for 24 months in order to get

the 12 months at $29.99.

At any rate their sales rep. told me that if I signed up for

18 months I would get the entire 18 months for the $29.99

rate. Based on this statement I agreed to the 18 months.

I noticed on my statement from the company that my price

guarentee would end Dec. 2009. I called Directv and was

told by their customer service rep. that I would need to

call back in Dec. 09 and get more credits to keep the price

at $29.99, that they always have new promotions available.

I called back in Dec. 09 and was told I was not eligible

for any more promotions and that my rate would go up to

$60.00 in Jan. 2010?! I told them I could not afford that,

and to cancell my service.

Now they are telling me that since I cancelled my service

early that I will be charged a cancellation fee, and the cost

of their equipment. I have told them that since they breached

our agreement that I'm under no obligation to return any

equipment to them. They installed it, they can un-install it,

and pick it up.

Let me reiterate that ONLY when their sales rep. offered another

6 months for the same price did I agreed to the 18 months. I

would have been perfectly happy with the 12 months.

The only reason I was looking for another source of cable in the

first place was because my local cable company was raising my rate from

$22 a month to $39.00. So it would make no sense that I would

agree to something that would double my rate after 12 months.

I'm a retired person trying to survive on a monthly social

security check. In today's economy that can be very tough. So

I budget my money closely and do not have $60.00 a month to

pay out to Directv, and never would have agreed to such a thing.

I would appreciate very much if your office would look into this

matter and do what you can do to stop Directv from charging me

a cancellation fee etc., when it was Directv that failed to keep

our 18 month agreement.

Thank You very much for your time and consideration,

                                                                     David Smith
